Filming our sustainable future
Ever thought of making your own beeswax food wrap? Let the students of Lincoln show you how!
Replacing plastic food wrap with a sustainable alternative was just one of the innovative environmental solutions showcased in Lincoln Envirotown Trust ’s short film competition, Focus for Future – Selwyn Environmental Film Competition.
The annual competition invites Selwyn locals of all ages to submit a video with a unique solution to an environmental problem.
This year’s top prize was won by enterprising Lincoln High School students Libby and Lexi, for their 4-minute video exploring three different ways to create reusable food wrap.
Enviro-Mark Solutions has sponsored the top prize for the past three years. “Our mission is to inspire action for a better environment – which not only applies to businesses, but to individuals and communities as well”, says Dr Belinda Mathers, Enviro-Mark Solutions GM Technical.
“What better way is there to inspire action, especially among our youth, than to let people explore their creative talents in video making while spreading environmental awareness at the same time”.
This year saw a record number of 19 entries from pre-schoolers to adults.
Category awards were won by Kidsfirst Lincoln, Springfield School, and Lincoln High School, while Monica Rastogi’s entry won the independent adult production category. Acting Mayor of Selwyn District, Councillor John Morten, presented the winners with their awards at an Oscars-style ceremony last week.
