It’s official – our emissions reduction target is Science-Based!
At Enviro-Mark Solutions we’re committed to walking the talk and actively reducing our own environmental impact. As a result, we’re excited to announce that after a robust assessment process, the team at the Science Based Targets Initiative has approved Enviro-Mark Solutions’ own science based target! This makes us part of the international movement setting ambitious targets that benefit the global community.
Science-based targets (SBTs) are emissions reduction goals set in line with climate science. They ensure that an organisation’s efforts are a meaningful contribution to the global carbon budget set to limit global warming below 2oC. The initiative is driven by a team of international experts at the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), founded by WWF, CDP, United Nations Global Compact, and the World Resources Institute.
Stu McKenzie, our Senior Technical Manager, heads up the SBT expertise at Enviro-Mark Solutions. “We’re proud that all our programmes are robustly science-based, so achieving recognition of our emissions reduction goals as a science-based target was important to us”, he says.
“It ensures our efforts are aligned with global best practice and proves that organisations both large and small have a role to play in making a meaningful contribution to limiting global warming to below 2°C”.
Stu’s key tip for any organisation wanting to do the same? “Ensure you have a robust and up-to-date emissions inventory, then you too can start on your SBT journey”.
SBTi founding partner WWF is encouraging more kiwi business to adopt a science-based target.
"We're excited to be able congratulate Enviro-Mark Solutions on being just the second New Zealand company to set an approved science-based target”, says WWF New Zealand Senior Campaigner, David Tong.
“Together with businesses like these, we can make it possible to bend the curve towards a net zero emissions future."
In October this year, we were recognised as a the first and only CDP-accredited science-based targets provider in New Zealand and Australia.
Alberto Carrillo Pineda, Director of Science Based Targets and Renewable Energy at CDP, a Science Based Targets Initiative founding partner, says, “We are delighted to see Enviro-Mark Solutions ‘walking the talk’ by setting science-based emissions reduction targets.
“Science-based targets provide a clear pathway for companies, large and small, to future-proof growth in the transition to a zero-carbon economy.
It is very encouraging to see Enviro-Mark Solutions become the second company in New Zealand with approved targets, and we look forward to seeing many more joining the ranks.”
We join our members, Auckland International Airport who have also had their SBT approved.
